The world of Edward Gorey, of course. Because I like a place with huge urns and dead vines and creeping shadows and children who die of ennui.

Jack's. In Skokie or maybe Lincolnwood, Ill. Jack's was (is?) the unbearably smoky 24-hour diner where we hung out in college. You needed a car or a friend with a car to get there, so it had a certain mystique. And their bread basket had the best damn bialy sticks west of New York. The waitresses wore those pink checked diner-waitress uniforms. And they knew us, and they'd sit down to chat when they took our orders. It's amazing I ever wondered how I gained so much weight in college.
Ever run for office? (School, club, organization, politics, etc.) Did you get elected?
In high school I was elected sophomore class president. That was about 16 years ago! I just saw my vice-president a couple of weekends ago. But in general, my mom and my sister are the politicians in the family. They have both won and lost their fair share of elections.
